A delicious sweet congee formulated by our TCM Doctor to give mums an easy nourishing breakfast to start the day.
It’s like a sticky rice pudding, but better, because it has the added benefits of five different Chinese herbs. Each herb has been thoughtfully selected for their healing properties. They work to tonify Qi, nourish yin and blood after birth, and help to promote breast milk production. It’s warming, filling and tastes like a treat. A Golden-Mama favourite!

Ingredients
Black Rice, Da Zao (Organic Chinese red date)^*, Gou Qi Zi (Goji Berry)*, Long Yan Rou (Dried Longan Fruit)*, Yi Zhi Ren (Dried Cardamom Pods)*, Brown Sugar, Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark)*.

To add: 6 cups water, fresh ginger (optional), coconut milk or yoghurt (optional).
Instructions
In a large saucepan add water and bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer. Add black rice, red dates, most of the goji berries, dried longan fruit, raw cane sugar, cardamon pods, cinnamon stick. Simmer for 1-1.5 hours (or until all liquid has gone and it is thick and pudding-like). Stir the congee regularly. You may need to add more water if it gets too dry. Once the congee is soup-like, ladle into a bowl.
Top congee with remaining goji berries and ginger slices. Store leftovers in fridge and reheat over stove for a quick and easy breakfast.
Tip: For a thicker and more decadent breakfast, add coconut cream or coconut yoghurt when serving. Enjoy for breakfast daily!
